Safety of treatment is of absolute importance, so we will speak to you regarding the risks of your chosen procedure, and work carefully to reduce them as much as possible.


We work closely with a team of nurses with experience in our field, who will also speak to you regarding your treatment plans, and allow extra time to ensure you have a clear understanding of the options.



As we aim to give you the best possible results from any treatment needed, not all specialists in our practice perform all types, or levels, of surgery. This may mean that your specialist may advise you to have surgical treatment performed by another gynaecologist in the practice, or, occasionally, he or she may refer you to another gynaecologist in another practice.

  • What are the treatment options for my condition?

    It is quite rare that there is only one treatment option available. Your Gynaecologist will take you through the choices available, and use her or his expertise to help you make the decision for treatment.

  • My Specialist is suggesting surgery, but how many of these procedures has he or she perfomed?

    Your Gynaecologist will be able to tell you now many of the suggested procedures have been performed in the past. When your suggested procedure is not commonly performed by your Specialist, you may be advised to have the procedure performed by your specialist and another Specialist in the practice, or be referred to another Specialist within Obstetrics & Gynaecology Ballarat

  • What is the likelihood of complications following surgery?

    This will vary depending on the planned procedure, and your Specialist will be able to give clear information based on your situation. Discussion regarding complications is an important part of planning your procedure, and you should feel free to ask for all required information.

  • What are the Costs for my planned procedure.

    All costs for your procedure will be discussed before you request that it goes ahead. There are a number of possible sources of costs, which include Pathology services to analyze tissue removed, Anaesthetic services, hospital costs, administration fees, and Assistant fees.


    Any required fees to be paid to Obstetrics & Gynaecology Ballarat will be clearly stated, so there will be no hidden costs. We will assist you in determining any costs from other providers, but cannot be responsible for the information they provide, or fees they charge.

  • Who will be the assistant for my procedure?

    Your Gynaecologist will know who the assistant for your operation will be. At Obstetrics & Gynaecology Ballarat, we work with  an experienced assistant who has been with us for many years. Our Senior Registrars also assist with procedures. This adds to the safety and quality of the care you will receive during your operation.

  • Who will be available for me to contact on the weekends or after hours?

    You will have the mobile phone number of your treating Specialist. Almost always he or she will be available to speak to you if you have concerns after hours or on weekends. If your Specialist is unavailable, for example during holiday leave, one of the other Obstetrics & Gynaecology Ballarat Specialists will be available to answer your concerns and see you if needed.

  • What happens if there is a complication?

    You will be informed regarding the types of complications  which may occur during pregnancy or following surgery. The most common indications of complications occurring are increasing pain, unexpected bleeding or  a fever .If you notice these, call your Specialist and he or she will give you advice regarding what to do.
