Obstetrics & Gynaecology Ballarat

Dr Tom Kavanagh

Senior Registrar

Tom grew up in Ballarat and completed his medical degree at Monash University in 2014. He began his medical career at University Hospital Geelong before commencing obstetrics and gynaecology training in 2018. Tom has trained at some of Victoria’s leading women’s hospitals, including Mercy Hospital for Women, The Royal Women’s Hospital, and Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Tom has extensive experience across all areas of obstetrics and gynaecology and is passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. He has a calm, kind, and approachable manner, ensuring his patients feel informed and supported at every stage of their journey. He is passionate about providing inclusive care for patients from all backgrounds, including fellow members of the queer community. He strives to create a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for all.

Now in his final year of specialist training, Tom splits his time between Melbourne and the Surfcoast. He practices tertiary obstetrics at The Royal Women’s Hospital in Parkville and is excited to join the OGB Surfcoast team, where he provides consultations in all areas of gynaecology while further refining his surgical skills under the expert guidance of the OGB consultants.

Outside of work, Tom enjoys spending time with family in the Geelong area and making the most of the Surfcoast—whether paddling his surf ski down the Barwon, catching a wave at 13th Beach or exploring the great outdoors on a hike or bike. He is also a keen traveller and music lover, always looking for his next adventure or a great live gig to share with friends.
